About CQ

Co-founders Ricky Ciner and Michael Roberts started CQ in 2016. We decided to start our own business because we are passionate about science and the positive impact it can have on people when applied correctly. We felt we could best apply that passion in our own company where we could have flexibility and be creative in a way that is difficult in larger established companies. In an age of technology, the world will continue to change faster and faster. The ability to adapt quickly is paramount to success. We have built our company on this paradigm and it has allowed to grow successfully.

CQ has evolved from just providing analytical method support for labs to a full support company. From method development to hardware procurement and maintenance CQ can help labs just starting get off the ground efficiently or help existing labs take their lab to the next level. CQ’s mission, is to implement better science and improve laboratory efficiencies, from conception to validation and data turnaround.

Furthering our passion for innovation. We have now launched our own CLIA lab (CQlabs) to support the emerging Direct-to-consumer (DTC) lab industry. We are excited to have the opportunity to bring innovative technologies to this labs space. We hope to provide high quality testing that is both affordable and accessible.

 The Quant Leaders

Ricky Ciner - Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Mr. Ciner Was an LCMSMS technical expert for Shimadzu Scientific and a Senior Applications Scientist for AB-SCIEX prior to forming ChemQuant Analytical Solutions (CQ). Duties included training scientists, developing methodologies, and working directly with clients such as The Mayo Clinic, The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, State and Federal Crime/Health agencies, The EPA, The CDC, Abbott, Pfizer, Merck, Nestlé, and the FDA.

Mr. Ciner’s graduate work at VCU/MCV entailed developing methodologies for the quantitation of pesticide exposure in professional applicators and the modernization/conversion of existing weaponized WMD exposure detection testing. The Chemical Terrorism preparedness and Response network employed Mr. Ciner. (CT- LRN) to provide direct support to and funded by the CDC. The research emphasis entailed the detection of exposure to chemical warfare agents including nerve agents, mustard gas, vesicants, and blistering agents

Michael Roberts - Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Michael brings a diverse analytical background to the team in both industry and research. He is published in multiple peer reviewed scientific journals and has served positions with a large CRO, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and most recently Shimadzu Scientific Instruments. At Shimadzu he was a recipient of their highest honor, the 2016 president’s award. He also has worked with a wide range of biological matrices including urine, blood, cerebral spinal fluid, and biological tissue. Through these experiences, Michael has developed expertise in method development, training, lab management, and high throughput workflows.

David Geiger - Director of Engineering and Service

David brings a strong background of hardware service and customer service excellence to the team.  He worked for many years with ChemQuant co-founders Michel Roberts and Ricky Ciner at Shimadzu where they formed a tight team.

David has been in the customer service business for over 3 decades.  His specialties are process flow, service excellence and mass spectrometer hardware. These skills were acquired while working for industry giants such as Texas Instruments, Varian, AB-SCIEX and Shimadzu.  During his time at Shimadzu he was the mass spec service team leader for the entire US.  He literately wrote and taught the process that were used for servicing the hardware and caring for customers.

Dr. Abigail Oakes - Service Manager

Abigail is an analytical scientist with over a decade of experience working in numerous research laboratories. Her expertise is in instrumental and forensics analysis and has a background in environmental monitoring and pharmaceutical analysis. She earned a bachelors degree in Chemistry Materials from SUNY Binghamton and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Connecticut and has worked in 2 academic laboratories and held positions in both state and federal government labs. Joining the lab in Fall of 2020, Abigail bring a fresh set of eyes to our ever expanding laboratory and her previous work in a CLIA certified laboratory brings confidence of her abilities to provide our customers with accurate results. In addition to her laboratory skills, Abigail excels at instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

Colin Bunner - Field Scientist/Engineer

Colin has a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota-twin cities where he was the recipient of multiple awards including the  J. Lewis Maynard Prize in Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. He also worked as a Research assistant with the Siepmann group. He has since continued his growth in science as a scientific associate at D.E. Shaw Research before joining the CQ team.

Jamison Williams -Senior Field Service Engineer

Joe Kahl - Clinical Scientist and Consultant

Joe Kahl is a Toxicologist 3 with the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner Department and supervises the quantitation section of the Toxicology Laboratory. His area of expertise is in analytical toxicology with a focus on GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS instrumentation and method optimization.

He performs various sample preparation and extraction techniques using postmortem biological fluids and tissues. He graduated in 2011 from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science, and in 2017, he earned his Master of Science degree in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Florida.
